Mosquito Control Evaluations of an Insect Growth Regulator, Pyriproxyfen against Culex pipiens pallens (Diptera, Culicidae) Larvae in Marsh Area, Korea

چکیده
Mosquito control evaluations of the granular formulation of 0.5% pyriproxyfen were undertaken in marshes and a pond in Busan during the period of July through September, 2001. In marsh condition where Culex pipiens pallens were predominantly breeding, the treatment of pyriproxyfen produced over an average of 95% mosquito larval reduction at a concentration of 0.05 mg/l for the first 4 weeks in spite of heavy precipitation (total 274.4 mm) during the period. Reduction rates of 72.6% and 32.3% appeared in the 5th and 7th weeks probably due to heavy input of sewage and flood. However, the reduction rate increased again a t the 8th week, showing a 94.5% reduction, probably because of the slow releasing of pyriproxyfen granular formulation. In the second treatment of pyriproxyfen, complete mortality was obtained at the 1st and 3rd weeks. Also, a satisfactory level of Cx. pipiens larval reduction of 96.6% was observed a t the 4th week. In a pond assessment, the treatment of pyriproxyfen at a concentration of 0.05 mg/l produced a complete reduction of Cx. pipiens palIens from the 1st week through the 4th week after treatment. In the second treatment, 100.0% reduction was obtained a t the 1st and 2nd weeks in the same sites. The treatment resulted in 84.4% and 97.9% reduction of mosquitoes at the 3rd and 4th weeks, respectively.

Assessments of the biological control potential of muddy loaches, Misgurnus mizolepis, were conducted against Aedes togoi, Culex pipiens pallens, and Culex inatomii larvae both in the laboratory and in small rice plots in Pusan, Korea, from June to September 1997. Medium-sized fish consumed almost all of 500 3rd-stage larvae of Cx. pipiens pallens offered daily in the laboratory. Predation by t...
متن کاملResistance Level of Mosquito Species (Diptera: Culicidae) from Shandong Province, China
This study describes the aquatic habitats, species composition, and the insecticide resistance level of the mosquito Culex pipiens pallens in Shandong Province, China. A cross-sectional survey of mosquito larval habitats was conducted from May to November 2014 to determine the species composition and larval abundance. Larvae were collected using the standard dipping technique, and a total of fo...

The larvicidal activity of the crude petroleum ether, ethyl acetate, acetone, chloroform and ethanol extracts of Amorpha fruticosa seeds was individually assayed for toxicity against the early fourth-instar larva of the mosquito, Culex pipiens pallens after 24 h exposure. Of the tested extracts, the ethanol one exhibited the highest larvicidal activity (LC50 = 22.69 mg/L). Amorphigenin (8'-hydr...

Previous studies in our laboratory found that the extract from seeds of Amorpha fruticosa in the Leguminosae family had lethal effects against mosquito larvae, and an insecticidal compound amorphigenin was isolated. In this study, the inhibitory effects of amorphigenin against the mitochondrial complex I of Culex pipiens pallens (Diptera: Culicidae) were investigated and compared with that of r...

Introduction: Insects as the largest category of arthropods include numerous groups and families that the most important of them belong to order Diptera, family Culicidae. Because of feeding on the human's blood, a number of species of this family have been known as responsible for the transmission of pathogens for many diseases such as malaria, filariasis, encephalitis, yellow fever and dengue...
